This new Exalt with Ultegra is perfect for setting new PRs up your favorite climbs-and down too! While the Exalt might look like other bikes, rest assured, it's a huge cut above. While we hate to be immodest, all the things you don't see on the Exalt gives you a decided advantage every ride!
First, the frame is made with top level carbons, and produced using what is known as '"tube to tube" construction versus the far more commonplace single-piece molded production that is used by virtually all the larger brands, even on their $10,000 bikes !
Tube to tube is exceptional for producing light and strong frames -but with the penalty of a ton of extra time and effort-which translates into a lot of added cost. This style of production is what Crumption, Parlee, Alchemy, and a few other high end custom frame builders have used for years in their best carbon frames. With this Exalt frame, we are able to offer you the all the advantages, but without the "exotic" price tag of the other brands.
We abhor noise in our bikes, so the Exalt features fully guided cable routing . Again, it is something not used by many manufacturers as it adds cost. Guided means you stick the cable in, and it pops out of the frame where you want it! No fishing, swearing, or rattling around inside the bike on every bump! Clean, simple, easy-and quiet! Aero sleekness meets old-school practicality!
The Exalt makes excellent use of our acclaimed Sampson Attenuation System (SAS), which gives you the smoothest, quietest ride around, without absorbing any of your power !
Trying to obtain comfort and power without a compromise of either is highly difficult proposition, but SAS delivers ! Any time you have parts moving, i.e. shocks, flexing seat posts or seat tubes, or even flexing stems, you loose power., plus they add weight. Sometimes a lot !
SAS provides you with a bike that has notably less vibration and noise-and zero power loss. As for those of you who are skeptical, join the club. The test editor's at Velo News, Bicycling, Bicycle Guide, Asphalt, Cycling News and other publications all became converts to Sampson's SAS after riding it, and we are sure you will too. SAS won't turn the Exalt into a beach cruiser but it certainly helps you ride stronger and with less fatigue, so you go faster day after day!
With the tube to tube process and top carbon, a big size in the Exalt is still under 1,000 g. ! It is made for speed, with a big aero-bladed fork and a tapered 1 and 1/8th to 1.5 inch base which delivers exceptional handling. After you work hard to crush the climb, you want to be rewarded with a great descent and the Exalt won't disappoint ! The chain stays are torsion box style for power, and the curved seat stays take a little of the edge off , but the bulk of the frame's stealth and comfort comes from the SAS !
While world-class speed is yours, the bike is amazingly easy to love as a daily rider. When the bike was introduced, one well known Boulder tech editor ridiculed Eric Sampson for not using a "press-fit" bottom bracket. Because Eric knew the bike could be built up into 12.5 lb. bikes with off the shelf parts, he saw little need to cut grams in favor of fashion-and now those same editors are lamenting the press-in styles. If we wanted to bring the Exalt to the "weight weenie"' wars, we certainly had the ability to do so. Eliminating the alloy stuff, and replacing it with full carbon parts would have shaved another 100-150 grames, putting the Exalt squarely into the 750 gram range in a mid-size bike. Other than getting some press or bragging rights for a super-light bike, we could not think of any advantages of actually selling you that product-but don't worry - it is still wicked light !
Other "old-school" features such as alloy drop-outs, a replaceable alloy hanger ( versus a one-piece molded carbon hanger), the guided cable routing , etc. are all there by design to make your investment in top equipment as durable as possible. Since we can readily use off the shelf parts with the Exalt and drop the full bike weights with pedals 2-3 POUNDS below the UCI weight restriction-with pedals and cages- we simply saw no good reason to go with features to save grams and sacrifice ease of use and durability.
On this Ultegra version, we have selected the new Ultegra 8000 group, which delivers lightning fast shifts, and braking that is powerful with great modulation. Modulation on road bikes is far more important than the raw power of discs, and you have a significant advantage is weight, and ease of service. With the improvements in the Ultegra, you will be hard pressed to discern any real differences versus the Dura Ace except we can build your bike with up to a 34 t cog on the rear cassette for us less than world-class climbers !
Up front we equip the bike with our new Stratics 35 Carbon bar and stem, for a new level of power and precision. The 35 bar provides aero shaping, a short reach, and immediate response for steering, or flex-free sprints ! Plus we have added in the new upper level RS wheels from Shimano, that go either with a standard tube, or tubeless-and they are smooth, light and fast rolling !
Amazing is not a word used often here, but the Exalt LE at our special price is just that. If you want to make it a better bike than most of the bikes on the pro tour, just let us know, and go with Dura Ace, Sram 12 AXS, etc.. When you want more speed, and higher quality , you simply won't beat this bike.
